I restocked my biscuits and gravy stash and discovered they'd changed the packaging and they're smaller, 4.4oz down from their previous net weight of 4.94oz. We're paying for less product. Then the horror. I figured I'd bust one up out home today and they taste like garbage. The consistency of the biscuits is really chewy unlike the crumbly/crunchy style in the older packets. The entire experience was also really, really bland.I took a look at the ingredients lists on both and they are indeed different. Not by much, but enough for the new one to taste inferior. They're also $15 a pouch on Amazon as of today (5/12/2020).I'm going to have to turn my back on MH, this is a travesty.https://imgur.com/a/ZQFREME
Check the reviews, they changed the recipe. My wife and I started trying these last year when we go camping and RV in, last year they were great. This year the recipe is different, not as flavorful at all, the chunks are much larger and they do not soak as well as they used to, I'm talking half of the bread ends up crunchy after 15 minutes of being soaked, and the other half is chewy. I tried crushing up the bread and everything but that just hurts the bag. I really wish that they would read these reviews, and put it back to their original recipe that everyone loved. If you buy them now, it's just a disappointment.
I must admit. I was a little hesitant to try this one. I couldn't imagine how this meal couldn't be a disastrous gooey mess, but I was very proved wrong. This would be a tricky recipe to get right, so kudos to Mountain House! It's not the most appetizing meal to look at right out of the bag, but that being said, the flavor and texture were surprisingly good. There was still a little body and texture to the bread chunks after rehydration, a nice surprise. The sauce was a little gluey, but maybe I needed a bit more water. Sausage gravy made under normal conditions has a bit of a gluey texture anyway, so that's not really anything new. The sauce had a nice mild sausage flavor without being overpowering. I actually added more pepper to mine for a little more zing. There were small chunks of sausage visible throughout. The sausage was a little on the chewy side, but again, maybe a tiny bit more water or time would have helped that. The stir in the middle of the rehydration time is vital to a good end result. Even with a thorough stirring in the beginning, there was still a lot of dry stuff that wouldn't have rehydrated well had I not stirred it again halfway through.Overall, it was much better than I anticipated and would be a nice addition to my emergency food storage or backpacking supplies. Would buy again without hesitation!

Tasty good food. Be careful not to add too much water or you will have chicken noodle soup. This is another favorite. I've been pleased with most Mountain House meals and this is a good one too. Tasty and pleasing.
Love stuff from this manufacture, but price is high. This tastes better than any other emergency food that I have.
Mountain House may cost you a few more dollars but hey it's good for 25+ years and tastes so much better than the other brands.

This may be my new favorite Mountain House meal, right up there with the turkey casserole menu.If you're from the south, and are expecting a "classic" chicken and dumpling meal, this isn't it. However if you like chicken pot pies, like I do then you will be very happy with this recipe, just needs a little more pepper. Now for some history trivia for quarantine victims.Years ago, when the Navy was made of wooden ships and iron Men, the ships would store water in old wooden barrels for months on end. The water got pretty Gross even by sailor standards. One day, an English captain by the name of Grogg, found that by mixing one part rum with 4 parts water made drinking the water easier. It also had the effect of less sailors getting sick (the alcohol killed the critters in the water) and made the sailors a lot happier while stuck on a small ship for months on end.So, if you find yourself feeling cooped up and grumpy, maybe you just need to purify your water. I'm just saying...
While Mountain House has been a favorite of mine for years for my emergency supplies, I am currently moving to other manufactures because Mountain House has been seriously reducing quality and shrinking the size of their servings and still increasing their price.Regarding quality, the latest order I received was very poorly packaged, six items thrown together and wrapped in packing plastic; plus one even had something dark and sticky spilled on the outside.
Each pouch now has 4.5oz of product, rather than 4.65 before and for higher cost!!!

These taste ok, kinda chalky, but for camping not so bad.Important!!!!Bears particularly seem to like these and can smell right through the bags. A bear destroyed my tent looking for these because I made the mistake of thinking these were smell proof. These are not and I repeat not bear proof. You still need a bear canister.
We've had several Mountain house meals while camping (and liked them), but this one needs to go back to the research facility. It's like eating yellow styrofoam, and you need a microscope to find the micro particle of bacon at the bottom of the package. Anybody who gave this five stars must have been born without taste buds.
No flavor really. Watch the water added or you get egg soup
