I've read all of Jane Kirkpatrick's historical fiction books; this is my first non-fiction by one of my favorite authors. Jane writes of her family's experiences finding, buying, building, and living on a remote homestead in central Oregon. Her style of writing has always appealed to me and this book is no different. Jane isn't afraid to write about painful topics, to admit to personal mistakes, to take risks in revealing herself, to stand up for others in adversity. Homestead brought me to tears more than once. I so appreciate her strength, her kind heart, and her encouragement to hold family close, love with all your heart, and keep facing forward regardless of the tough times that come to us all in this life.
