"Van Wilder" was one of the best films to come out of the National Lampoon studios since "Animal House" ... and that's saying something. When NL announced a direct-to-DVD sequel to "Van Wilder," audiences knew it would probably be the same caliber of the studio's other DTD videos. In this respect, "Rise of Taj" does not disappoint. The film has its funnier moments, but on the whole doesn't deliver the laughs of its predecessor. The fact that Kal Penn chose to make the film at all is a miracle, seeing as he is a rising star with more credits to his name. "Rise of Taj" is good for a lazy Sunday afternoon and not much more; it's definitely not worth watching more than once.
It isn't as funny as the others
