I bought this for the Fire Starters. The Space Blankets were and added benefits. These are large rods and steel. This adds a little weight, but a lot more sturdiness. It takes some effort for first use, these steel scrapers are usually a bit weak, but the size of this one makes it easier without them bending. In order to get these to work right, you need to scrape off some of the magnesium into the tinder. Then pulling the steel towards you for the spark; the magnesium you scraped off will ignite the tinder easier.
The USAF gave it's pilots and crews "Military Grade" Lansatic compasses in case we were shot down, that often happened enough. I still have mine, but I wanted something more up to date for 5 - 7 day hunting trips in the wilderness. This one is made better than my 1970 vintage military Lansatic, has more features, though the inclination gauge is kinda "feeble". Otherwise, this compass is worth the price.ONE THING THOUGH ... this does NOT have "Tritium" self illumination!! It is just plain light absorbing material like on a cheap watch. This is FALSE ADVERTISING and why I did NOT give it 5 stars.
