The pictures along with descriptions are wonderful. I have a book about edible wild plants, this has some other plants that are not in the book. Would reccommend to all.
This a very nice pamphlet showing all the basic edible plants available, and also the poisonous ones too. Very nicely layed out in full color and great for travel. Only negative maybe is that it dosen't tell the region each plant is in, but other than that very nice, and I would recommend it for survival needs
First of all this is not a paperback book. It is a laminated pamphlet. Which is fine if thats what you wanted. I thought I was getting a big regular paperback with much more information. But this item is great to take into the field. It fits right into your pocket and won't be messed up by bad weather. Has good color pictures, so you can be sure of the plant your looking at. Easier to identify the plants than the black & white pictures in the old books. Describes aprox. 112 plants including fruits & berries, nuts & seeds, leaves, stems & bark, roots & tubers, seashore plants, desert & tropical plants, & poisonous plants. Could definitely help you find a meal out in the wilderness.

“Keep your survival kit essentials in a waterproof bag or container and stow the container in a vest, coat or fanny pack that you always take with you in the backcountry.” A handy quick reference that prioritizes the basic principles of survival. The pocket guide provides a survival strategy and includes information on first aid, shelters, signaling, fire craft, navigation, edible plants, outdoor hazards and survival essentials. The laminated quintuple fold pocket guide measures 4 X 8.25 inches and can be folded in half as needed to fit inside a slip pocket of an EDC Pocket Organizer. My philosophy of use or purpose in purchasing this guide is for cross referencing or a means of a check list of the survival essentials in my survival kits and to provide a quick reference to the Air Visual Signal Code (distress signals). The printed instructions will also help focus my survival mindset during a stressful incident and can be used as a shield from wind and rain while making a fire. I maintain several different types of survival kits that are personalized and tailored to my operating environment and skill set. My EDC/Urban survival gear differs from the kit I would carry while trekking in the backcountry but share the same core components of survival essentials. Make your kit or gear work well for you, rather than you trying to adapt to a piece of gear or kit. Develop the proper mindset and have a plan along with basic preparation; this will go a long way in reducing anxiety and maintaining a calm disposition which is half the battle in a survival situation.
This has everything you need to survive in an emergency situation. Shelter, fire building, food collection and signaling is all covered. It is also laminated so you can keep it with your pack if you have a Bug out bag. Highly recommend it.
this a good and easy to reference pamphlet, light to carry in a backpack and easily accessible in an emergency

#1) This guy know what he is talking about. There is no doubt about that. I bought this book because I am traveling 780 miles in a canoe this summer and thought, "Well, it would be nice to know how to survive if something bad happens (like a canoe getting away or getting in a close encounter with a bear). I still back up my reasoning, but this book doesn't cover much of what I hoped it would AND covers some other things in such tremendous detail, more than once, that it becomes menotnous to read. #2) For example, he explains how to make about a half dozen shelters in the wild out of snow. Well, great... but why? Especially when it is recommended over and over to be creative and innovative and just follow the basic ideas - where many of the 'basic ideas' are similar in each example. This would be great knowledge, if I ever have to need it. The only thing I was thinking as I read was, "Well, next time I get into a snowball fight with the kids, I'll be set on making the fort" but other than that... #3) This is not a book to get the kiddos at Christmas. The reading level is, I'd say, around 10th grade. If you're thinking about getting your child a survival book because "Little Johnny" wants to know what kinds of plants he can eat for some reason uncomprehensible to you, this is not the book. Even as a college graduate, I find myself going back and rereading items to make sure I know exactly what I am reading. #4) The reason I gave it a '4 star' reading is because I think the author: a) assumes that the reader is very experienced in 'outdoor activities. b) the author often says the same thing over and over again. Tough to read this book straight through. c) Covers "Too Much" without much in detail. He jumps from desert survival skills to artic skills at a page turn and the reader is often left to wonder why. #5) Finally- the best part of this book is that it does have some VERY good ideas for what to keep in a survival kit, what kind of equipment he recommends, and an EXCELLENT basic plan to survival. --If I even have to use one thing from this book on the canoe trip, however, I'm probably about dead. This is a 'worst-case' book that, I think if I got into a positiion where anything in this book was relevant, I'd proably have died already about 40 minutes prior. I really hope that helps you make a choice on the best survival book for YOU!
