Wilderness Survival

Wilderness Survival Books – When venturing into the wilderness – whether its an over night trip, or a week long excursion – its always good to have a book on wilderness survival in your pack. Some people may say “why do I need one of those books for?” Besides covering topics such as first aid, navigation, wild foods, and shelter building, these books also discuss a wide range of other topics.

I (Kevin) have the SAS survival guide and the US Army survival manual and highly recommend that everyone have something like one of those books in their pack. Even though I have never had to use the manual, it does make for interesting reading while at the camp site.

Besides the reading material, survival books can be used as conversation and quiz. While you and your buddies are sitting around the camp site, questions could be asked straight from the book, and the answers discussed with the whole group. This is an excellent way to educate yourself and your friends on survival related topics during your free time. And being in the woods provides an excellent backdrop for such topics.

Bear Grylls – is the star of the Man VS Wild TV series. Bear has also published a series of survival books. Bear might be best known for his television series Born Survivor, which is also called “Man vs. Wild” – which is aired in the USA. Bear Grylls is also one of the youngest Britons to climb Mount Everest – which he did at 23 years old.

Military manuals – Some of these books were developed and originally published by the United States military. While others were written from a first person account of certain events.
