I used to respect wired as a credible source of information, that was until I read an article about controlling ammunition to reduce gun violence. The logical of controlling ammunition to reduce gun violence, is like saying we can stop drunk drivers by reducing the amount of gasoline on the market.
Once again lets just ignore the root cause of the majority of gun violence, and that is criminals and drugs. Law abiding citizens do not use gun in crimes, that is the reason why people who use guns during a crime are called criminals.
If the government truly wanted to do something about gun violence, fix the broken criminal justice system, stop the flow of drugs into the US and break up gangs. What do the majority of gun related deaths have in common? They are either drug of gang related.
Broken Justice System
Our criminal justice system does not reform people. Prisons are nothing more then a warehouse for the mentally ill. Someone would have to be mentally ill to inflict violence upon others.
Society points the finger at the father and says – “do not have more kids then you can support.” What does the mother get? Does she ridiculed for having sex with a man that does not want to support the children they made? Is the mother ordered to get a job and provide health insurance?
The last time I went to a child support review, I saw several dads being put on probation, one father was arrested and handcuffed right there in the court room. Some dads were sentenced to 2 years in jail, but the sentence was deferred as long s they were making payments. If they missed a payment he would be arrested and put in jail.
During the time I was sitting in the court room watching these fathers being sentenced, not a single mother was charged with not paying child support. There were several mothers who did not show up for their hearing a bench warrant was issued for their arrest, not a single deadbeat mom appeared before the judge.
I thought it rather odd that the majority of the people being held responsible for supporting the children were the dads, but the freeloading moms got a free ride. Not a single mom was asked if she had a job or providing health insurance for the child. The financial burden was placed solely on the father.
How are we supposed to be a fair and just society, when parents are not held to the same level of responsibility? Why do the majority of the moms get a free ride on the system, but the dads are prosecuted as criminals?
The child support system does one thing, and one thing only, it turns a parent into a criminal. Sending a parent to jail over child support is nothing more then debtors prison.
If the government was truly concerned about the welfare of the child, shouldn’t both parents be held to the same level of responsibility? For every dad that is ordered to pay child support, shouldn’t there also be a mother who is ordered to support her child?
There are not an equal number of women and men being ordered to support the children, as the system is tilted in the favor of women.
The nation is screwed, and I mean royally screwed.
The government is so far into debt, there is no way future generations can pay off the debt. As of the posting of this article the US Government is $16.4 trillion in debt. With credit card debt and student loan debt, we owe more like $58 trillion.
If the nation is broke, how are we supposed to bankroll millions of new people collecting benefits?
Kidney stones suck
We were supposed to go to the homestead this weekend. But on friday I started having pains so bad I had to take some Vicodin – which I have a prescription for. The stupid stone did not pass over the weekend.
One thing that has surprised me after the Sandy Hook shooting is all of the hatred towards guns. This is not your typical “we need to ban guns” type of hatred that we see after a shooting, this is unbridled hatred.
This is the nazi and the jews type of hatred, pit bull attacks a baby type of hatred,,,,. If those people could, they would take every gun away, and that is absolutely crazy. Crazy that logical people have a knee jerk reaction to a tragic event.
Instead of placing the blame on the root cause of the gun violence issue, gun haters blame the tool. That is like blaming Snap-on for someone drinking and driving.
If the people are not united, can we survive as a nation?
After Waco and the Branch Davidian stand off, did gun haters want religion control?
After the financial collapse of 2008, did the gun haters want banking control?
With so many pit bull attacks every year, are the gun haters calling for pit bull control?
President Obama is having US citizens killed with no due process of law, are the gun haters outraged about that? Probably not.
Maybe something went terribly wrong in the past 100 years? Something that has to be fixed before society breaks?
Why would other first world nations view our justice system as barbaric? Maybe its because we punish people for their entire lives for a one time mistake? Maybe its because of how we demonize acts such as smoking weed?
If something does not harm society, why should it be illegal?
Lets take making your own whiskey for example. Why is it illegal to make your own whiskey? Because the government loses tax dollars on the manufacture and sale of the whiskey.
Why should someones life be ruined because they wanted to make and sale a product, and not pay taxes on it? Is it “that” important that the government collect a dollars in sales tax?
Someone makes their own whiskey and sales it, so what? What it he big deal? Are people people who sale eggs arrested like people who sale whiskey?
Why cant people make a product at home, sale it to their friends and family without having to worry about being arrested and thrown in jail?
The problem is not the guns, the root cause of the issue is mentally ill people and a broke legal system.
Someone walks into a movie theater and starts shooting, someone walks into a school and starts shooting, someone kidnaps a child skins and eats the child,,,, the person has to be mentally ill to act in that manner. Sane people do not inflict violence upon others.
Why do law makers think passing more gun laws will fix the issue?
The real issue, and the root of the problem, is a broken legal system that can not keep mentally defective people off the streets.
If someone shows violent tendencies, or otherwise acts in a manner that is disruptive to the general public, that person is free to roam the streets until they break the law. Even if the defective person breaks the law, unless it was some vile act, chances are the person will be back on the streets with nothing more then a slap on the wrist.
Everytime there is an incident of gun related violence, it seems the crazies start coming out the woodwork like roaches in a wood pile.
Do gun haters just not understand what the 2nd amendment is about, or are they just stupid?
Lets take this video about an anti-gun rally.
Place the blame where it belongs, on mentally ill people.
Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 people, and did not use a single gun.
Adam Lanza murdered 26 people.
What did Jeffrey Dahmer and Adam Lanza have in common? Both of them were mentally ill.
If we want to make society safe, lets keep mentally ill people locked away from the general public. Whether its a gun, a knife, baseball bat,,,, mentally ill people will find a way to kill others.
The true purpose of the 2nd Amendment
Our forefathers established the 2nd amendment for a reason. George Washington did not write the British to death, he took up arms, established a militia, and killed the British.
This nation was founded and protected through the private ownership of guns.
Who protected New Orleans during the war of 1812? It was a bunch of men with their hunting rifles.
Who protected the United States when there was no Army, no Marines and no Navy? It was the everyday people.
If the United States were to be invaded, who would step up to protect the nation? It would be the armed citizens.
There is an old saying, the pen is mightier then the sword.
I would like to add a second part to that saying, “when the pen and the sword both fail to delivery the needed results, you pick up your rifle and the kill the enemy.”
Did the British give up because of what some newspaper wrote about King George III? The people that wrote negatively about the King of England were imprisoned. Our forefathers took up arms and killed every red coat they saw.
Did Mexico peacefully hand over Texas? It was armed citizens who beat General Santa Anna at the battle of San Jacinto on 21 April 1836 that won Texas its independence.
Hitler did not give up because of what some newspaper wrote about him. Our great grandfathers invaded Germany, bombed the hell out of it, and killed every nazi they saw. World War II was won by guns, bombs, gun powder and bullets. Pen and paper did not convince the nazis to give up.
Where did the guns for World War II come from? From factories that made civilian weapons before the war started.
It is the duty of every United States citizen to contribute something to national security. The United States will never be invaded. Why is that? Because we have 9 guns for every 10 people. No other nation in the world is as armed and ready for war as the United States.
The gun haters do not care about national security, nor do they not care about your rights.
The 2nd Amendment does two things, it protects our nation, and it protects our government. When the pen fails to protect the government, the 2nd Amendment ensures the people have the ability to protect the government through force.
In the debate about gun control, there is no lack of stupidity.
With the renewed call to outlaw, ban and/or restrict military style weapons, we need to keep something in mind.
The military does not buy enough M-4/M-16 rifles to keep the gun manufacturers in business. The civilian market is what keeps gun makers afloat.
Why should we care if a gun manufacturer goes out of business?
Who is going to make the firearms we need in times of war?
Sooner or later there is going to be another world war; do we want to run into a situation where our troops do not have access to the weapons they need?
Colt is currently the supplier of M-16/M-4 rifles to the military. In times of need the military could buy from any of the other AR-15 manufacturers on the market.
So lets just go ahead and drive firearms manufacturer out of business. Then lets whine and complain when our troops are using rifles left over from world war II.
What do just about all of the mass shooters for the past 20 years have in common? They were mentally ill.
It takes a mentally ill person to shoot children, so that should be a given. If these were sane rational people, they would have shot up congress.
Doesn’t it make sense to deal with the mental issues, instead of guns?
If society had some kind of social safety net, someplace where mentally ill people could be kept. Not a prison, not an insane asylum,,, something where mentally ill people could be kept safe, receive the treatment they need and protect society as a whole.
Lets treat the root issue of gun violence, and that issue is mental illness.
Here is my theory on why Americans are so violent, and its not that we love violence. When given the chance, most people pick peace and quiet over violence.
If we prefer peace over violence, why do so many people prone to violence?
My opinion, there are two factors that promote violence in our society:
1, The lack of upward mobility.
2, Violence is a learned social behavior.
There is an article on Live Science saying Murder May Spread Like Infectious Disease. That article discusses a couple of important factors, one factor says that murders are more likely to be committed in low income neighborhoods.
If you track murder like a disease, it spreads and burns itself out. But if you look at the tracking on a map, higher income areas have a lower murder rate then lower income areas.
For the most part, why is murder a low class crime?
Something to occupy free time – If you take a bunch of chickens and throw them in a cage, they will get bored. Once boredom sets in, the chickens start pecking at each other. Once blood starts to flow, chickens will peck each other to death. Killing the weakest chicken in the flock is an evolutionary trait which helps keep the rest of the flock healthy.
Now lets go back to the poor and middle class. How do they spend their free time? When my kids were little, I worked 50 – 80 hours a week at a heat exchanger fab shop, which left me with almost no free time. I did not have any free time to be bored with.
Most lower class people work part time jobs, or no jobs at all.
Having so much free time with nothing to do breeds boredom. Why should we expect people not to pick at each other when they are bored like what chickens do?
Maybe the difference in the murder rate between rich and lower class, is that the rich have stuff to keep their mind busy? The rich usually have hobbies, jobs, cars, swimming pools, discipline,,, maybe something to do besides standing in the welfare line.
Upward Mobility – All of us ask ourselves the same question at one time or another, “is this all there is to life?”
You have worked hard through your 20s, 30s and into your 40s,,, now what? Is this all life has to offer me?
Punk kid drops out of school, finds out he can make quick cash selling drugs,,,, why go to college or learn a marketable skill?
The lower and middle class come to the realization that there is nothing in life except to work their fingers to the bone.
The shooting in Aurora Colorado and the following anti-gun feeding frenzy, has made it clear we are a divided nation. We are not only divided on gun ownership, we are also divided racially, demographically, financially, and through ideology.
When the blacks were freed, instead of treating them as people with rights, the whites continued to look for ways to oppress blacks. Even though slavery was abolished in the 1860s, their rights were not affirmed until the 1960s with the civil rights movement.
“Why” were we, and still are, divided on race? Why cant we as humans and as Americans put racial tensions aside and just get along?
Then we have the illegal immigrant population.
Then we have groups who refuse to incorporate into society.
Then we have the inner city gangs, poverty and drug users.
What would someone from inner city New York know about a coyote raiding a farmers chicken coop in a rural area?
We are divided demographically, financially, racially, and through ideology.
Back in the mid-1990s my wife and I were driving through a poor section of port arthur Texas. There is a welding supply store near the port of port arthur, but to get to that area you have to go through a poor section.
I needed a part for my job, we went to the welding supply store and bought what I needed.
On the way home we stopped at a red light where some blacks (nicely dressed) were handing out papers. I rolled down my window and asked for a paper. The guy would not even look at me, he looked to the side and handed me the paper.
When my wife and I got home I looked at the paper. It was a newspaper filled with racial hate articles pointed towards whites.
There was a cartoon in the paper that showed a couple of people dressed up like the KKK putting bandannas, drugs, guns and beer on a table.
The second image of the cartoon showed a couple of black guys walking to the table.
The third and fourth images were the black guys putting on the bandannas, drinking, taking drugs, then finally killing each other with the guns that were on the table.
In the images, the two klan members were in the background laughing at the blacks.
The caption under the cartoon said something like “do not fall for the tricks of the whiteman”,,, or something like that.
What does this say about a Islam when they blame others for their lack of self-control? Did the klan members in the cartoon “make” the blacks drink, take drugs and shoot each other? No they did not. Those actions were a choice.
In a republic, how much should citizens contribute back to society?
Is there an obligation to contribute?
What should society do about people who “refuse” to contribute?
Lets use 2 groups of people as examples:
1 – criminals.
2 – individuals who make a career out of welfare.*
* There is a difference in someone that uses welfare as a helping hand to get back on their feet, and someone who lives their entire life off the system. This is about people who expect society to provide for them, while returning nothing to very little back.
Society frowns upon criminals, probably because the criminal takes more from society then they contribute.
Historically, society has tolerated and somewhat frowned upon welfare. We know that members of society need a helping hand from time to time. There is no shame in needing help. The shame should come from being too lazy to help yourself.
Why are the people who are too lazy to provide for themselves not ashamed? Over the past few decades, any shame that was associated with welfare has all but disappeared. Why is that?
Why do people vocally complain about the money spent on criminals, but are less vocal with people on welfare?
When the guards were chasing gordon freeman, they would say “outbreak” from time to time.
I read somewhere that the guards said “outbreak” because criminals should be treated like a disease. The longer the criminals stayed in the community, the longer they have to spread the infection. The infection being crime.
In the case of the justice being drawn out, the system is being dragged to the knees.
Just as the immune system reacts to clear an infection, so should the justice system act swiftly to remove the infection from society.
The longer the infection stays around, the more damage it does to the system as a whole.
Instead of capturing the infection and destroying it, the legal system releases the infection back into the community to do more damage.
Society can not afford to build more prisons, or sentence people to a lifetime in prison for petty crimes, the only solution is to put the person to death after X number of crimes. Instead of three strikes and your out, it should be three strikes and you are put to death.
Three strikes and put to death might seem a little drastic to a lot of people. But what is society supposed to do to clear the criminal infection from the community? Are we supposed to let career criminals back out on the streets, to commit more crimes?
The problem with the criminal infection of society, is the legal system is a revolving door. Unlike the human immune system that cleans an infection from the body, the legal system allows infections to society to remain, spread and build up.
A few months ago there was a murder in Beaumont Texas. Come to find out, the guy who committed the murder had been in prison several times for assault. The key word there is “several times”.
Why do we allow criminals to harm our society? If someone commits 2 or 3 violent crimes, that person should be put to death. This will clear the infection, and society as a whole would be better off.
This article is not trying to debate “if” we are a third world country. I am here to make the statement, “The United States “is” a third world country”. If you think the U.S. is a world leader, you are partially right and wrong. We are a world leader in technology and military weapons. What about other stuff, such as taking care of our children and our elderly? What about internet access? How does the US rank in simple stuff, like health care for all citizens regardless of income levels?
Infant Mortality Rate
The U.S. currently ranks 35th in the world for infant mortality rates. Think about that for a minute, 35th, and we are supposed to be a world leader? Heck, North Korea and Cuba both have a lower infant mortality rate then the U.S. Cuba, which has an an embargo against it for as long as I can remember has a lower infant mortality rate then the U.S.
The U.S. currently ranks #14 GDP (nominal) per capita.
Japan ranks #18 in GDP (nominal) per capita, but has a lower infant mortality rate then the U.S.
Iceland ranks #22 in GDP (nominal) per capita,, but has a lower infant mortality rate then the U.S.
Cuba ranks #88 in GDP (nominal) per capita where the U.S. ranks #14, but Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate.
Having a baby? Want to improve its chance of living? Then move to Cuba.
As much as I love this great nation, we have a long ways to improve in infant care. But then again, we can not place the blame on the doctors, we need to partially blame the parents. How much training in taking care of newborns do parents receive?
