Facebook And End User Privacy

Kevin Felts working on his bar-b-q pit

Why is everyone upset about Facebook allowing user date to be accessed? From the time someone logs onto the Internet, just about everything they do is logged in some shape or manner.

When a device accesses a website, a whole series of events have to take place.

All information sent over the Internet is sent in the form of a packet. The packet has the sending IP address and the destination IP address.

DNS Server

First, the name of the website has be translated with an Internet Address. This is done through a Domain Name Server (DNS). Whatever device the user is using makes a request to the DNS server.

Dream about aliens controlling the human population

I had a rather strange dream last night (July 28, 2012). The dream was about aliens had decided the human population had grown past a point of no return. We were breeding, polluting, and consuming more then the earth could supply.

In order to save the earth and the human species, aliens decided it was time to clean house. The (the aliens) developed a virus that could be transmitted in powder form. Low flying alien ships acted like crop dusters over our major cities.

The powder covered tens of thousands of people, who in the following days developed the virus, which was contagious between people. The result was millions of people died.

My dream moved from the aliens crop dusting the major cities, to people roaming the streets stealing and killing for food.

One of my sons had it to my house. I was somewhere, but I do not remember my exact location. Somehow, I called my son and told him to start eating my food stockpile. I also told my son about keeping lights on at night, and how that could draw attention.

Somehow or another my wife and I made it home.

The dream was somewhat dark with lots of death and destruction.

Survivalist OPSEC

bug out location cookingAs a survivalist, live part of your life by one simple saying – “loose lips sink ships”.

There is an episode of the Twilight Zone where some satellites are picked up as incoming nuclear missiles. One man and his family has taken the time to build a bomb shelter under his house, but none of the other neighbors have taken the time to prepare. As the news of the “missiles” is broadcast over the radio, people started to panic.

The family that had the shelter started moving supplies into the shelter, filling jars with water, grabbing flashlights and batteries, moving canned goods from the kitchen to the shelter,,,,. After the family closed the door to their shelter, the neighbors start beating on the steel door demanding the family let everyone else in.

As the missiles are getting closer, the neighbors start tearing down the steel door of the shelter. As the door is just about to be removed, the news reports that the missiles are really satellites, and the whole alarm was a mistake.

Missing gear from bug out location

You know what really sucks, is when your trying to stockpile survival gear at the bug out location, and stuff keeps coming up missing. Awhile back the liner of my parka went missing, pair of cold weather gloves, shotgun shells, and now some lithium batteries and a LED flashlight are missing.

Its not that someone is breaking into the location and stealing the stuff, I think its more along the lines of someone “borrowing” the supplies and not bringing it back or replacing it.

Over the past 15+ years, I have been making it a point to keep certain types of survival gear at the bug out location. Whether its blankets, flashlights, knives, ammo, first aid supplies, water filter, hand tools, eating utensils,,,,,, I like to keep a general stockpile of gear at the camp. I don’t know how much time and money has been invested over the past decade alone to make sure we have plenty of survival gear for some kind of SHTF situation.

Now for a video about a bug out exercise on Labor Day of 2010. Labor day was used to test my families bug out plans.
