    Peanut butter sandwiches

survivalistPersonally, I think peanut butter sandwiches can say a lot about someone. More exact, the way someone fixes their peanut butter sandwich, what ingredients that someone puts on their peanut butter sandwich, what they drink with it, whether or not they read the labels,,,, it all adds up to say a lot about someone.

Just for the fun of it, lets talk about peanut butter sandwiches.

    How do you make yours?

Peanut butter on both pieces of bread?
    Whole wheat bread?
Jelly, jam, honey, or something else?
    Milk with that sandwich?
Natural peanut butter, or with partially hydrogenated oils?
    Crunchy or creamy?
    1, 2 or 3 pieces of bread?
    Banana or extra stuff?
    Fold over?
Do you buy peanut butter mixed with the jelly?
Spread with butter knife or spoon?

Personally, this is the way I see some of this:
People that add extra stuff like bananas may like spice in their life.
Buy peanut butter premixed with jelly, might be a little on the lazy side, or like things easy.
Straight peanut butter and jelly may like tradition.
Read the labels may be health conscious

I like mine with creamy natural peanut butter (no partially hydrogenated oils), on both pieces of whole wheat bread, honey instead of jelly, and a tall glass of milk.

Crawfish boil for my wifes birthday party

survivalistMy wifes birthday is next week, and my step daughters birthday was a week ago, so we held a happy birthday get-together for both of them this weekend.

The plans started Tuesday of last week when my wife and I reserved 70 pounds of crawfish at the local meat market.

Thursday my wife and I went to the local grocery store to pick up some supplies for the weekend, and for a mylar bag project I am working on. We bought of crawfish boil spice, AAA energizer lithium batteries, powered pancake mix, sausage links, potato salad (red skin), boudain,,,, and a few other supplies

Friday night we had a friend of the family and her 2 kids spend the night with us. Her husband is serving in Afghanistan. It was nice to visit with her and just talk about life, kids, and just life in general. Our friend was passing through, and does not get to eat crawfish very often. So my wife and I invited her to spend the night and to join the celebrations Saturday.

Bright and early saturday morning my wife and I went to meat market, got the crawfish, got some ice, another propane cylinder, went back home and started setting everything up.

Faecbook needs a Do Not Recommend button

survivalistWhile reading an article on Health.com about the 12 vaccines your child needs, I wished that Facebook had a “Do Not Recommend” button. The article listed Chicken Pox as a needed vaccine. Its at that time the article lost all credibility. Even though there was a Facebook Recommend button, I wished there was a “Do Not Recommend” button.

Who in their right mind list chicken pox along with Hepatitis and Polio? Does chicken pox cause life long suffering? No, its a simple virus that kids used to get on a regular basis. The chicken pox vaccine is nothing more then a convince drug. Instead of researchers spending time on HIV or Cancer, their wasting time researching a common childhood disease.

Let the kids get sick, let their bodies develop a strong immune system, and they will probably be better off later in life.

Some buttons I wished Facebook had:

Worried about a food crisis in 2011

snap beans potatoes survival gardenAre you Worried about a food crisis in 2011? I am.

Price of gas has gone up almost 50 cents in the last 2 weeks, and is currently sitting in the $3.47 a gallon range. A couple of years ago when gas touched $3 a gallon, fertilizer for growing food went to $22 – $23 for a 50 pound bag.

The higher cost for fertilizer and fuel pushed food prices up. As the price of fuel came down, the price of food came down.

But now, instead of the price of fuel slowly creeping up, its skyrocketed through the roof. Overnight prices go up 5 – 7 cents. The cost of fuel will sooner or later be passed down to the consumer.

Now that people are talking about shortages of Mountain House #10 cans, panic buying might kick in, and we might be looking at even more food shortages.

A couple of days ago a buddy of mine and I were talking about the current shortages in freeze dried and dehydrated foods. My buddy has the opinion that the current shortages are caused from last years food crops being depleted. That once the crops from 2011 are harvested, that the shortages will fade away.

Lets say for a minute that my buddy is right. Last years crops are depleted, we have nothing in reserves, and once this years crops are harvested everything will be ok. If this theory is correct, we are just 1 season from starvation.

    Another weekend has passed

East Texas Deer StandThese are the kinds of weekends I hate. “Hate” is a strong word and I don’t like to use it very often, but I think its a good term for weekends like this. So the question is, why did I “hate” this weekend? Because my kids had to go back to their moms house. Their bedrooms are dark, the computers and TVs are off, waiting on my son and daughter to return. When I look into their rooms, the silence is almost deafening – I miss and love them more then words can describe.

My son and his girlfriend are going to some kind of pageant in a couple of weeks. This is not your usual beauty pageant, as my son has to escort his girlfriend. So my son and his girlfriend had to go pick out a tux for the pageant on Saturday.

Saturday was also baby-sitting day. My step-daughter and her friends wanted to go ride their 4-wheelers, so we watched her kids for the evening. My daughter and I were also supposed to watch the remake of “Nightmare on Elm street” Saturday night, but we were baby sitting instead. My step-daughter showed up around 10:45pm or so to get her kids, and by that time it was too late for my daughter and I to watch our movies.

Sunday rolls around, its drizzling rain outside, but not too cold. I get up before the kids, get my breakfast of sausage, egg and cheese croissant and a banana. My daughter got up, and I helped fix her a breakfast of croissant and a sliced golden apple. A couple of hours after eating breakfast, checking emails, playing left 4 dead, and my daughter having time to check on all of her stuff, we finally got to sit down and watch the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. As an encore, we watched RED staring Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren and Karl Urban.

Living without credit cards or checking account

boat angelina riverMy wife and I do not have a credit cards or checks. There are lots of reasons why we do not use them, but the main reason was to save money. After looking at how much money we were spending on late fees, interest, penalties,,,, we decided the banks were charging us too much money for such a simple service.

Credit cards – Its a personal financial decision we have made, no credit cards. If we had them, we would most probably run up the bill and put our family in debt; and that is something we do not want to do. To avoid the temptation of using a credit card, and paying the interest and fees, we just do not have any.

My ex-wife, while we were married, she ran up a credit card bill between $30,000 – $35,0000. Every card we had was maxed. It took us years to pay that down, we had to go through credit counseling, collection companies were calling all the time,,,,,,,,, it was a bad time in my life. To avoid all of that again, an to avoid the temptation, my new wife and I do not have any credit cards.
