One question gun owners may be thinking, “Will democrats push gun control in the 2018 mid-term elections?”
There is a saying about articles that start with a question, “The answer is no.” This is called Betteridge’s law of headlines. The law is the absurd suggestion that says anything that starts with a question can be answered with a no.
I prefer a more balanced approach: Ask a question, present the evidence, then let the reader make up their own mind. That is what writers are supposed to do, right? Present both sides and let the reader make up their own mind.
If we follow Betteridge’s law of headlines, the answer is no, and I am glad Democrats will not be pushing gun control in 2018. However, what if I told you the answer was yes?
The real answer is a combination of yes and no.
Yes On Gun Control
There is a wing of radical Socialist Democrats who view negotiating with Republicans as an act of treason. They believe democrats should hold the line and force Republicans to come around.
This viewpoint has caused the government to grind to a halt. Governments function when there is give and take on all sides. If one party refuses to talk, then the government stops working. Socialist Democrats see this as resisting President Trump.
People running for office in those radical Socialist states will have to pander to their voters. If someone wants to get elected in those districts, they have to talk tough on gun control.
Regardless of what Betteridge’s law of headlines says, the answer is, “Yes, some democrats will have to promote gun control during the 2018 mid-term elections.”
No On Gun Control
Democrats running for reelection in the flyover states have to tone down their gun control rhetoric. Or else there is no hope they will win reelection.
The issue with gun owners, and democrats know this, we are a voting block. Depending on what the NRA or Gun owners of America say about a candidate, that is how most of us vote.
So the other answer is no, some democrats will not promote gun control during the 2018 mid-term elections.
I suspect only elected officials from the most rabid Socialist liberal states to promote gun control during the 2018 mid-terms. For others, it will be a mute point.
President Trump is a pro-gun president, so talking about the issue is a waste of time.
Ddemocrats lost over 1,000 state seats in the eight years obama was president. 2008 – 2016 was a kick in the balls to democrats, yet they refuse to change their party stance.
Another issue democrats have to deal with, is the disconnect between young voters and the ageing party leadership. Young voters want an even more radical progressive agenda, while at the same time refusing to negotiate with Republicans. A hardline approach without negotiation does not work. Those young voters have yet to learn that lesson.
2018 will be an interesting year. President Trump has a lot on his plate. If the economy continues to strengthen, democrats are doomed in the 2018 mid-term elections.
