George A. Romeros Diary of the Dead
First impressions – this is a pretty good zombie flick. Maybe not a great movie, but it is good. Diary of the Dead addresses some real issues that would face our society if a wide spread disaster were to strike.
During the 1918 flu pandemic, governments did not want want the public to know that was a world wide flu pandemic going on. News outlets were asked not to talk about the seriousness of the outbreak. The Spanish flu is called the Spanish flu because a news agency out of Spain was the first to report the seriousness of the pandemic.
Has too much really changed between 1918 and today? I highly doubt it.
In the movie Diary of the Dead, the government tries to suppress the truth of the outbreak. From previous real life examples, could we really expect any less if there was an outbreak of the plague or bird flu today?
Plagues are a fact of human history. For thousands of years humanity has had to deal with a plague in some form or another. The Black Death killed 1/3 of Europe during the 1300s. In 1665 – 1666 the plague killed off a large portion of London. The Spanish Flu killed 20 – 100 million people between 1918 – 1920.
Its not “if” humanity is ever struck by a plague, its “when.” And when the time comes, it is up to every survivalist to do their part to make sure the truth is known. Just in Diary of the Dead, we should use every means possible to make sure that the rest of the world knows what is going on. Ways to spread information include forums, blogs, social networking sites and video sites such as Youtube.
During times of extreme civil unrest, the government might try to have sites like youtube remove videos that show the truth. This is where instant messenger programs come into place. If you do not have an instant messenger program installed, I recommend yahoo messeneger and then connect with survivalist in your area.

Back to Diary of the Dead. Its a worth while watch, but do not spend full price on the DVD. Maybe pick it up at a pawn shop or wait until it goes on sale for $5 at wal-mart. The movie revolves around a group of college kids that are filming a zombie outbreak from the first person point of view. People that did not like the movie “Cloverfield” or the “Blair Witch Project” might not like this movie. The camera movement is non-stop, which is not like most hollywood type films.
The news media is not showing the entire truth, so the college kids start downloading videos from youtube. Its interesting how the movie shows that people are telling different stories that the main stream media is showing. And in away, that is how it is right now without a zombie outbreak.
I am not going to spoil the ending for you. Go rent the movie from the red box and watch it. At least then your only out one dollar.
